The latest word on cosmology is that the "dark energy" that appears to be driving the expansion of the universe ever faster, may result in every last particle being violently torn apart in a final cosmic ripping. Phantom menace' may rip up cosmos

Now, the interesting question is, if the universe drives itself apart at a rate that maybe tears open the space time continuum, might that be the way that a subsequent universe is sucked into existence?

I'd call that emergence with a real vengeance.
